About

My name is Alexander Iain Siantonas. I am a Visiting Professor in Philosophy at Ashoka University for the 2023-2024 academic year. I took a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Leeds, and before that I took the BPhil in Philosophy, as well as a BA in Philosophy and Theology, at Oriel College, Oxford.

I am both a member and a scholar of the Oxonian Realist, or Oxford Aristotelian, tradition. So I think (I’m hedging here), for instance, that knowledge is the aim of belief and the basis of content, and that the supposed distinction between the a priori and the a posteriori is not very deep. These views are not now especially unusual (the former Wykeham Professor does a lot of graduate teaching); more unusual is my interest in tracing such views back to, for instance, the largely forgotten Waynflete Professor Thomas Case.
